There are 5 types of links in the MediaWiki language:
- Internal links to other pages in the wiki
- External links to other websites
- External links to internal pages in the wiki
- Interwiki links to other websites registered to the wiki in advance
- Interlanguage links to other websites registered as other language versions of the wiki
To add an internal link, enclose the name of the page you want to link to in double square brackets (that is, using the [[ ]] format). Upon saving the page, you will see the new link pointing to your page. If the page exists, it will be displayed in blue. If it does not exist, it will be displayed in red (such as this random link). Selflinks to the current page are not transformed into URLs. Rather, selflinks are displayed in bold.
The first letter of the targeted page is automatically capitalized, unless otherwise set by the administrators, and spaces are represented as underscores (typing an underscore in the link will have an effect similar to that of typing a space, but is not recommended, since the underscore will also be shown in the text).
[[Portable Infobox]] will produce Portable Infobox.
To add an external link, enclose the name of the website you want to link to in single square brackets (that is, using the [ ] format). Upon saving the page, you will see the new link pointing to the website of your choice.
[http://www.example.org www.example.org] will produce www.example.org
